Sharing Internet Connection between 2 computers question

I have a high-speed, wired (Ethernet/cable modem) internet connection on my desktop computer. We are getting a laptop
for Christmas that has a built in wireless card. What exactly do I need to do to enable the laptop to share my internet connection?
That’s all I want to do- no need to share files or printers……..

Am I correct in thinking that all I need is to get a wireless router and connect it to my cable modem/ desktop computer?

Thanks very much……

Yes.

Very complicated answers about security, etc., to follow.
