Pioneer DVD Writer driver

My buddy recently gave me a Pioneer DVD writer that he couldn't use. I installed it as the master, and it works fine. I haven't had a chance to burn a dvd yet, but it burned a cd perfectly.
But, every time I turn on my computer, windows finds new hardware, and prompts me to install the software for it. It never finds the software it is looking for, though.
The unit is the Pioneer DVR-A08XL (or 108, I've seen it listed as both) DVD Writer. The only software it came with was something called NovaStor and Ulead DVD Movie Factory. I have an HP Pavilion, with Windows XP Home SP2. I do not have any of the windows discs, as it was given to my girlfriend without them.

So far, I have:
Checked Pioneer's website, and downloaded everything they had for this model.
Uninstalled/reinstalled the hardware
Disabled/enabled the hardware
Checked microsofts website for the drivers
Updated my windows
Checked driverguide.com for the drivers
Checked HP's website for the drivers

Any idea on what I can do? Thanks for any help.
