Have you upgraded to 1.5? I think alot of websites got around the popup blocker in 1.0 but I haven't gotten any since I went to 1.5

It's some sort of Java thing. It must auto-enable on some sites because I get them too.

Ahh...and we see why popularity is a bad thing.

People use firefox now. So the bad guys find ways to exploit it.

I only ever get the more advanced animated popups. Just in case, make sure you have the blocker enabled: Tools -> Options -> General tab.

I'm using Firefox 1.5 and it blocks the pop-ups from dvdtalk.

Some pop-ups can be blocked by FastFox extension:

hmmmmmm. I get these "tribalfusion" ads each time I visit the main page of the forums (unless I don't delete them and there's at least one still up)

AdBlock Extension

I also use a Hosts file also, which includes the "tribalfusion" site. I get mine here:
Hosts file and Information A hosts file is not browser specific, which is better than just a pop-up blocker/extension. IMO

thanks, I installed it. I do still get the dvdtalk pop-ups (the deepdiscountdvd ones). Any ideas why this one isn't blocked and every other one is?

You can customize your adblock so it can block or unblock whatever you want (images, script or flash). You'll get used to it with a few trial and error.

ok, I'm getting the hang of it. Is there a way to block the ad from popping up? So far, with adblock, I can only block the ad's image or script. I could care less if the pop-up has an image or not......it's the pop-up itself that I'm trying to get rid of. thanks

I've imported a filter that has a bunch of pop-ups preloaded. the problem is that it blocks stuff like the arrow to go to a new post and so on. anyone know which one that would be so I can remove it? or would someone post a list of their adblock filters?

When I'm still using 1.0.7 I can click the Adblock text on lower right corner of the window - it list all blockable item in the page, which one is blocked, which one is not. You can remove the blocked item from the list or put something new to the list.

I got only blank screen after I upgraded to 1.5 - I have to go to Tools menu and go to Adblock preferences to edit things up. This is quite a mess, especially because I have to go down to page source to see which item I'm supposed to block or not.

What I experienced may be an installation glitch, but so far this is the only setback I experienced after upgrading to 1.5

my adblock in Fx1.5 still works fine (including click on the lower right corner Adblock text). My adblock's version is 0.5.2.056
