Mixing files and DVD video on same disc

Hi folks. This is my first posting so if the question seems lame beyond belief, please don't flame me too much.

Anyway, my problem is this: how do I burn a (DVD) disc that contains holiday JPEG snaps that can be browsed on a PC AND also contains a (DVD) video from the holiday that is playable on a domestic DVD player?

I can get the files and the VIDEO_TS directory onto the same disc, no problem and the video bit plays fine on a PC, but won't play on the domestic DVD player. Looking around on the internet, I've read that, unlike the PC, the domestic DVD player looks for its files in certain locations - and can't find them.

I can burn a video DVD onto a separate disc from the JPEG files but I really do need to combine them onto the same disc.

Any suggestions, preferably that doesn't involve lots of cash having to be spent!

Mike
