How do I get a domain transferred to my name?

I'm a member of an organization and will be taking over the website. Of course the other party will agree to the transfer. What are the steps to get a domain name changed to my name? Where do they have to go, what do we need to sign, etc?

Thanks!

You should just be able to transfer it online - I haven't done one in years, so the work might have changed. Not sure if any paperwork is required (it might be due to domain hijacking), but it should be simple and any competent registrar (godaddy, etc.) should be able to lead you through it.

It isn't that difficult at all... Find out where the site domain is registered and who in the organization has the account login information. Once you have the UserID and password, simply log into the account change the domain information. To "own" the domain, you'll want to change the Registrant information. To make sure any changes (i.e. DNS, domain forwarding, registrar transfers, renewals, etc.) go through you, change the Technical Contact and Administrative Contact to yourself.

Do you know where the domain is registered? Keep in mind that this is usually different than where it is hosted. If you do know that registrar, they will have a userid and password to access an account from the registrar's web site. Once you log into that account, you should be presented with an opportunity to "update" (i.e. change) the registrant information.

I was away all last week, but shoot me an e-mail if you want to discuss offline.
