DVD-ROM drive recommendations?

Can anyone recommend a very reliable DVD-Rom drive? It must be able to burn dual-layer discs and also I'd love for it to be able to read DVD-Ram. Is there such a device?

I'm sure there are others, but the only one I know of is an LG.

it's a steal for 40 bucks. I have had no problems with it (although i havn't tried DL burning yet). Only thing is i had to get some hacked firmware update to make it burn at it's full speed but it works beautifully now on dvdr's (which is all i tried on it)

, i just realized my modem is the same one the poster above me suggested. Ummmmm, yeah.. what he said
edit...

of course by modem i mean dvd burner

Thanks guys. the one i have is an NEC 2510A and for some reason, it's having a really hard time ripping things to my hard drive as of late. constantly giving me errors on all sorts of discs. i'm going to check and see if it's the drive or what could be happening? very strange.

The NEC drive mentioned is a great drive, but it doesn't read DVD-RAM. If that's a must, go for the LG.

I went with a BenQ DW1640 based on reviews.

Just had a co-worker rip the DVD-R on the PC here so no problems on that end. Should I just get another drive? I'm assuming that's the problem.

If you're talking DVD burner drives...

...The Plextor drives are probably the best out there. They're among the more expensive drives but Plextor drives are built to last.

Unless I'm mistaken there's no need to "rip" a DVD that doesn't have copy protection. The files on it can just be copied.

Since we don't discuss defeating digitally protected material here I'm closing this thread.
