Home user file sharing options?

What are the options for a home user to share data between multiple home PCs?

Naturally there is Windows File & Print sharing (which I'd rather avoid) and also FTP (which is cumbersome across multiple drives). External network based HD units are out because they don't support NTFS.

Are there any other feasible options?

If you're not going to use Windows File Sharing... you could just use AIM. Sometimes I get lazy and log on to 2 different screen names and send myself a file or directory. It goes at an incredible speed too.
