Help ! Small MS EXCEL problem !

Hi all

Im wanting to record my running splits in an excel spreadsheet, thought it was time to upgrade from a paper diary

Anyway i have am problems with the time format

I've got a column with the splits and i want to be able to add them together to get a total time. In excel, it seems to only want to register stuff as an actual time, not a duration

so i want something like

Split 1 - 5:30
Split 2 - 5:30
Split 3 - 5:30
Split 4 - 5:30
TOTAL - 22:00

Cheers

In the cells with the times, highlight them all, go to Format --> Cells and select a time format from the menu (HH:MM:SS, for example--or customize your own based on the info you need).

I don't get it. I just tried it and it worked fine. For instance, cell A1 contains 5:30; cell B1 contains 5:30; as does C1 & D1...in cell E1 I use sum a1...d1 and get 22:00. What am I doing wrong?

Ok here is where the problem comes in

Try adding these times up

03:53
05:42
05:53
05:48
05:39
04:57
07:31
03:39

Shows as 19:02

Not 43:02

How can that be fixed ?

On the cell with the total, go to Format --> Cells --> Time --> Choose 24 hr time format under type. (Mine is listed as 37:30:55)
