Where would i go to download a type of video?

sorry for the vauge thread title but someone here can help me I hope.

I am trying to play an AVI file on DivX Player 2.1, but for what ever reason when i try to play it, it says
"the file contains the following type of data
Video data:FOURCC code: XVID
you may need to install a new video codec on your computer to watch this video."

sure any help would be great.

Standard codec problem resolution #1: download the VLC Media player at videolan.org.

Numanoid is correct. http://www.videolan.org/vlc. This has everything you need built right in. No codecs, no hassle.

Like I said, dealing with codecs is a hassle. Your call, but I switched to VLC entirely. It "just works".
