Did you look under the sofa cushions???

Try and remember the last place you saw it, and retrace your steps.

The same thing happened to me. It was around the time I picked up a virus/worm. After hours and hours of attempted rescue I bought an external drive for 30 bucks - of course some of my programs (creative) don't recognize it. Life sucks sometimes.

One possible solution is to re-install your IDE drivers for your motherboard.

Sometimes things go poof and you have to reinstall (hopefully the latest drivers) and your system will recognize your hardward again. This happened to me all the time with my old Asus p5a socket 7 mobo on a 98se system. Lost my burner all the time.

However, this is more for people with 98/me. If this is happening with you on an XP-class system then you may have other problems.
