Bad Processor?

I've never had a processor die on me, but I was putting together an older computer and was having problems.

I've now used 2 motherboards, 2 video cards, 3 different sticks of RAM and multiple hard drives. I know the video cards and hard drives work and one of the motherboards _should_ work as it is brand new, but a couple of years old (just removed from box - ECS K7S5A - I know...I hate ECS too).

Anyhoo, I'm not sure about the RAM, but I can't get any video out of these two motherboards - I've tried both an AGP Card (known to work) and a PCI card (unknown status). Could the processor just be the problem? I'm not getting any beeps from the speakers (not sure if they work though), so I'm just at a loss.

Thanks!

has this worked before

or a new setup?

Im assuming youve tested with just memory, power, and vid card plugged in

the processor is rarely the issue

That's all I've got right now - the mobo, processor, memory and video card - and a hard drive too - I could remove the hard drive...

But it's a new setup, all old parts though.

sure the psu has enough juice?
unhook the harddrive, and go without that until you get it figured out

next, take out the ram.. and see if the motherboard beeps
hsf is attached tight? all lights and fans are coming on as expected? just no video post

Blake:

Same thing happend to me recently. I tried swapping everything until the only thing left was... the processor. No beeps, nada. Even tried the twikoff suggestion above to no avail.

I just ordered a new processor and once it was installed, everything worked great!

Yeah, sounds like the motherboard or the processor. I had the same issue but it turned out to be the motherboard. If you tried two motherboards and still nothing I would assume it is the processor.

1.) lights and the fans on the processor, motherboard and box all work fine.

2.) no video signal getting to my monitor

3.) CD-ROMS have power but I could not open them up till I removed the PCI cable from the back.

4.) no beeps at all nothing, does not even get to the POST
