Is there an alternative to winXP ms-dos/cmd?

I use ms-dos a lot for testing PHP/MySQL on my local winXP SP2 machine. I hate crappy dos. Is there an alternative version of DOS (from a non-microsoft developer) that's available for usage?

Also, do a search for Open DOS, aka DR-DOS, aka Caldera Open DOS. I couldn't find one particular page but there are lots of hits.

If you're just looking for a more robust command shell (with Linux-like commands to use) to use under WinXP you could try CygWin:
