Can't skip around for .AVI file

I am watching a .AVI file using DivX Player 2.5 and for some reason, I am unable to skip around. When ever I try to, it goes to the begining of the file. Is there any way around this? (The file won't play in WMP. Error DLing codec)

Not positive, but it might be the way that it was encoded. Skipping around in it might not be an option.

Your .avi is corrupt or incomplete. The AVI format keeps important structural data at the end of the file. Without this data a player cannot jump to a random point in the AVI and some players will refuse to play them entirely.

There is a program called videofixer that will fix the problem. It is available with in a 10 day trial download after that it's $40. You can use free tools to fix some video problems. VirtualDub is an open source video editor that can open and resave broken video, but it has to index the entire stream, which can take a long time. There may be other free options I don't know about.

Neither of these methods will fix the corrupt video itself, just the structure, so the resulting video may jump, garble, or have other playback issues, but it will restore seeking.
