Problems with DirectX, SP2, any help appreciated

I recently bought the expansion pack for Rollercoaster Tycoon 3 and learned I needed DirectX 9.0c to play. I checked, and sure enough I had 9.0b.

So, I go download c and try to install, and am told that a cabinet file can be trusted. I am booted out of the install. This happens with the version on the CD, and a version I downloaded.

So, I found another suggestion online about installing SP2. I download it and try, and after some work, it bumps me out saying the integrity of the Update.inf file can not be verified, so some such.

So, here I am unable to update in any way that I know of, and it is a bit frustrating.

Any ideas?
