Internet Explorer 7 Beta download

Anyone wanting to try the IE7 Beta, here it is (you nust have a valid XP install to run this):

Internet Explorer 7

Pretty sweet (anti-phishing option, tabs, RSS), though I'm sticking with Maxthon for now since this IS a beta. Doesn't show up in Add/Remove programs unless you check the "show Updates" box, so I'm not sure how an uninstall would go (may have to use a system restore point to uninstall).

Note: this was not supposed to be released to the public until Beta2 so DOWNLOAD AT YOUR OWN RISK! It works for me but who knows what could happen. I got the link from anandtech.

Nice.. I'll give it a spin when I get home. I'd probably be shot by IT if I installed that on a work PC.

I guess you could specify a different search engine as the default with the dropdown next to it for an alternative. Not only do they have Google as the default they also have Yahoo and AOL search. Trying to give the impression of ?

I like how the Favorites fan out across the screen now, instead of the scroll button at the bottom. Still no way to selectively edit the drop-down history contents. The non-moveable/resizable address-search bar is a

not a big deal for me, since i dont really talk to people on msn
i assume trillian will come up with a fix soon enough

The refresh button is between the address and search bar for me. It has the two-arrow refresh icon on it. It turns into an "X" stop button while it's doing the refresh.

I'm not real impressed with the beta. It feels really clunky to use. I don't like the location of any of the toolbars, mostly because they aren't in the typical locations. I don't like the fact that you can't right click on an entry in your Favorites menu and open it in a new tab.

The rss seems to only work if it can actually sense that there is a feed on the site. I went to slashdot and it enabled the rss option at the top. I like the way it looks when it loads the feeds, but it's not a feed reader so it doesn't work like I would expect. I'm going to stick with BlogBridge for rss.

Anyone know of sites with new screenshots? The only ones I found were really bad literal 'screen shots' with a camera and a few from the longhorn preview demo.

Yeah, I like my Maxthon RSS feed setup where I have a side panel with all of them visible at once with previews and they auto-update. This IE beta version looks like it just displays the feed when you hit the site (the RSS toolbar icon lights up).

So far it seems to be a great update to IE6, but it lacks the customization of the other browsers, which is a serious detriment for me. Then again I guess this is a non-public beta and a lot of features may not have been incorporated yet.

Yep, me too. Mine just stays on the "Checking for latest updates for your computer..." screen. It definitely just worked before on IE6 for me.

Thanks.

It doesn't look to impressive, but it's a start.

I am mostly look forward to the increased security, which is the #1 reason I dropped IE6. Even if it doesn't end up as full featured as Firefox, etc hopefully it will provide a good base for Avant, Maxthon and others.

I miss IE's performance though. It's probably my plugin config, but something in FF is just eating memory like crazy. I only have this reply window open and it's using 55MB RAM, 143MB Swap.

Yeah, it certainly seems very vanilla, especially if you've "blinged out" another browser. I like the IE base and prefer it to Firefox, but couldn't survive nowadays without the Maxthon interface on top of it.

I dont have any FF plugins loaded at all.. and mine is a terrible resource hog
but there are a couple sites that i need loading in the background without me watching, that i liked the tab browsing for (since it keeps them from coming to the front).

OK. I have it installed in my laptop. It didn't take long for me to uninstall it. I don't like the interface, I'm losing more in customization -- I can't resize the address bar, my link folder is not adjustable, tab browsing suck. Oh God, I like my Maxthon + IE 6.0 combo so much more.

my link folder was adjustable
the tab browsing seemed fine to me.. its just basic tab browsing, nothing special

but yea, the address bar part sucks.. they better fix that quick..
but as mentioned above.. this is not a public beta.. and generally, they dont worry about aesthetics in a private beta.

being able to rightclick the desktop icon, and chose the option "Start without addons" is a very good option in this day of ad/spyware
