Best buy on a 17" LCD flat panel?

I need to buy one as a gift very soon. I personally gravitate towards flat screen CRTs so I have little experience buying flat panels.

I have heard good things about the Samsungs and Sam's has a Samsung 713V (comparable to the 710 series) for about $350. I am looking for the best combination of price and quality but, OTOH, I would rather not spend more than the $350.

Any others I should be looking at?

I would recommend you look at ones that accept DVI in addition to VGA. It's a real improvement in picture quality but could be harder to find at a real "deal" price.

Also, the computer it's connecting to would need a video card with DVI.

I have a Samsung and they are veny nice. Also BenQ is a good brand. It wouldn't hurt to check out what Dell has on sale periodically.

i just got a dell (the deal i got is listed here a few days back) and i'm pretty happy with it.. twikoff is probably correct about black firday (unless you have a coupon or gift cert. you need to use).. I would probably stick with a name brand... normally i'm all for generic brands, but a monitor is something you will be looking at all the time

don't buy a flat panel at best buy. I bought a Samsung 172X back in June from Amazon for $570. I checked out all the B&M stores and they all had the low end models. Check out the online stores for better deals.
