Help DVD+R 8x media only burns at 4x

I'm running :

Os: ms xp service pack 2
dvd burner: NEC ND-2510A
media: Ridata dvd+r 8x

prog: Nero

When i go to burn a dvd with nero i can only choose 4x or lower. Any idea what i can do to get it to burn at 8x speeds ?

What version of Nero? Maybe you have an old version that can't burn at 8x??

Maybe you need to update your firmware. It may not know about that particular media.

I have a 2500 that I upgraded to a 2510 with firmware and it burns Ridata 4x +Rs at 8x. The firmware tells the drive (and ultimately the burning software) how fast the media can be burned at.

It would be a good idea to make sure Nero is up-to-date as well.

Go to Nero's site and make sure you have the latest updates for Nero 6.

What's the media code for your discs?

You can use DVDInfoPro to find out. http://www.dvdinfopro.com/

I've bought discs that claimed to be 8x but were only recognized as 4x by DVD Identifier. Not sure why.

Looks like you got what you expected and it certainly should burn at 8x. But it looks like you're better off at 4x anyway:

That's unfortunate. On my Plextor 708A, I've been burning my 4x DVDs at 8x. I've used Memorex and Ridata DVD+Rs.
