Can't Remove Web Address From IE 6.0

When I cleared IE 6.0 webpage history and restarted IE 6.0, one web page does not go away. How do I remove it besides reformating my hard drive and reinstalling Windows XP Pro?

I assume you mean the drop down address bar list...

If so then start up regedit and navigate to the following key:
"HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\TypedURLs"

Just delete the offending value from that key, or just change it to www.definatelynotapornsite.com

I would also suggest downloading and running Spybot and Ad-Aware, you don't mention what the address is, but it's possible you've got some website that hijacked your IE.

I usually avoid the registry, but thanks for posting those directions to delete them from the reg.

There is a bug in IE that prevents some web addresses from being removed.

I downloaded the latest set of patches that seemed to have finally fixed this.

Sounds like you have been Hijacked..Use Adaware and SpyBot with current definitions/updates and do a full system scan as suggested by dtcarson.

What is the site name??? Don't be shy, we are here to help! Also look in your Control Panel>Add/remove Programs for any suspicious programs tht could be spyware or ad based and remove them

I have a similar question. is it possible to remove just a few links from the history and keeping the rest without editing the registry?

Yes.

Open the History via the ToolBar. Your history will be on the left hand side of the Internet Explorer Window (By default).

Select the WebSite, right click on the "site" and select "Delete"
