There have been several threads about this in the last couple of weeks, so you might want to run a search for a lengthier discussion.

The short version: Kerio or Sygate, then Zone Alrm. Norton? No.

I've used Kerio, Sygate and ZA. I didn't like Sygate and never had a problem with ZA. I'm currently using Kerio and like it a lot.

I been a zonealarm user for quite sometime. I'm currently using Zonealarm Pro. I'm happy with Zonealarm and NEVER had a problem with them. It's stable. I like the stealth mode and i feel so secured.

I never used Norton...but I do not like Norton products too much.

While most people will probably disagree with me... I feel that SP2 firewall is sufficent...

I use ZoneAlarm and upgraded to their antivirus program as well. Norton always crashed my system and made it run quite a bit slower and buggier. Never had any problems with any of ZoneAlarms programs.

To me Norton is a piece of shit. I don't care how many say it's a top company that has lots of knowledge. If they had the knowledge they would be smart enough to make it so less resourceful and not so dayum SLOW.

I'm going for Panda this week for my new Dell PC.

Do any of these have a 'status bar' like At Guard (@Guard)??

I still use @guard on my Win98 machine and I really like it. I like being able to see what's going on/being blocked and I also like the way I can set up rules for not only applications but also by IP address.

So, for example, I can allow my email program to connect to my mailserver but NOT to any other IP address. Do any/all of these programs have that option as well?

Are you using Kerio Personal Firewall or Kerio WinRoute Firewall? I'm not sure that I like ZoneAlarm but Kerio looks promising. Just wondering if I have any need for the "WinRoute" version or not on my home/cable-modem network

I'm using Kerio Personal. I have 11 days left on my evaluation period for the full version and I'm trying to decide if I'm going to stick with it or Zone Alarm Pro.

If it's Norton don't use it. I can't believe they want people to pay them to keep getting virus updates. Are they forking crazy?

If Norton were the only anti-virus that charges you might have a point, but it isn't unreasonable to expect to be paid for providing a service to people. I don't mind paying, but I think other companies make better firewalls than Norton.
