Need recommendations for screen capturing software

Currently using CaptureWiz3 and Screen Print32 v3. I find that when I paste the images into word, they come out blurry. Are there any good ones out there that keep the images clear?

What's the benefit of a screen capture program over using the Print Screen button or Alt-Print Screen?

Screen capturing software is a lot more flexible. You can capture parts of the screen (what I need) as oppose to the whole screen. Also I know that when you paste a Alt-Print screen image into word, it dramatically increases the size of the document.

We use HyperSnap-DX at work. Works great. I'd give it a look.

I may be missing something here, but this is what I do:

Press print screen

Paste image into Paint

Use select to cut out part of the screen image I need

Paste into a new Paint document

Save new bmp file

Open new bmp file in Irfanview ($10 shareware, free download)

Convert to jpg, gif or whatever

DONE.

Looks more cumbersome than it is, but only requires one shareware program, and you don't need that if you can live with bmp's.

TechSmith (http://www.techsmith.com/) offers a program called SnagIt, which is a highly capable capturing application. The list of features can be found here:

Check it out! You won't be sorry.

I second Techsmith's Snagit. They have a feature that allows you to capture entire windows that scroll off the screen, as well as plugins for IE, Office, etc.

With HoverSnap you can choose in the preferences what type of file to save the captures as, as well as where you want them saved.

Print Screen saves the whole screen, ALT Printscreen saves the active window, CTRL Print Screen allows you to define a custom area by dragging a box with your mouse. In all instances, it goes right to saving the file without opening and closing a bunch of other apps, and you can save them as whatever size you want them.

I'm not totally certain myself but according to their news section—which hasn't been updated since November 2003—there are indications that previous versions of the software was freeware. Unless that status changed between version 2.5 and the latest version (2.6)—at which point, one would think that it would be mentioned in their news section as well—I think it's fair to assume that it's still freeware.

Thanks for your info!

The latest version is freeware. It says it one the 2nd screen of the setup routine and also in the about section.
Gadwin and HyperSnap neither let scrolling take place buring the screen capture.
