Headscratcher: MP3's downloading only as RealPlayers

Hello, I've never visited this section of the forum before, but I have a problem that I wondered if any of you fine people could shed some light on.

I have an Imac. For months I've been sucessfully downloading MP3s. Now for some strange reason, when I download, they are automaticly converted in RealPlayers.

For example, in the Other forum, someone posted a link to Dana Gould's website, where you could download MP3s of his shows. I'd been listening to these for the past few weeks no problem, now all of a sudden they download as RealPlayers.

Why the heck is this happening?

The only thing I can think of that's changed is I reccently installed Windows Media Player for Mac. I'm wondering if this has caused the kurfuffel. Is there some way I can easily uninstall this?

Thanks.

Sounds like an association problem. Do you have RealPlayer installed on your iMac? RealPlayer is wonderful at taking over extensions without asking.

Yeah, I have RealPlayer. Can I just uninstall it or would have to wipe the Harddrive and reinstall everything?

Nah, you won't have to reinstall everything. In fact, try to go into RealPlayer preferences and see if you can find any association settings. If you can't then uninstall it.

Also, another alternative would be to use another program to takeover your MP3's. Right-click on your MP3 file--->Properties, then notice where it says "Opens With". You can change what program uses it. You'll probably see the infamous blue RealPlayer icon there in the "Opens With" section. Simply choose another player to takeover MP3's--windows or any other music player.

IMacs have the same property navigations as Windows OS's?

I tried that and it seemed to take care of the problem. Thanks.
