help getting most out of a system

I'm runnin on a 3.0 ghz, 1gb ram, and 128mb geforce fx 5200 video card.

When I play counter-strike it just doesnt seem like im taking advantage of my system. I run it in 1280x1024 and the net graph says i get 60fps, its just like stuck at 60. maybe im a noob or something. but i feel like i should get more then 60fps. and things should look smoother, with more... color. and no look so rough. am i missing something?

Graphics drivers always default to vsynch on. That is, the card will limit the rate at which it renders frames to a maximum of your monitor's refresh rate.

If you want to see how many frames per second your system can push, go into your driver settings and turn vsynch off.

For actual gameplay, however, you'll want to leave it on since playing with it off will lead to visible "tearing" artifacts.

BTW, you're using an LCD display, right?
