Ripping Audio from DVDs onto Macs

I remember my film teacher last year telling me of a program available for Macintosh in which one could put a DVD into their computer and rip the audio tracks from the DVD into various audio formats. He did this with audio commentary tracks from the DVDs he owned and put them onto his iPod to listen to when he was driving, at work, or just not in the house. I would like to do something similar, especially with me being at work with my iPod and having not much to listen too.

Does anybody know what program my film teacher could've been talking about?

Since we can't discuss ripping DVDs here I will just suggest that you look for previous threads we've had on analog capturing of DVD audio.

If those don't answer your question you could post in one of them asking about Mac-specific recording software.
