Runtime Error no not the debug kind.

Everyonce in awhile I get this warning while in IE 6.0

"Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library

Runtime Error!

Program: C/Program Files/Internet Explorer/iexplore.exe

This application has requested the Runtime to terminate in an unusual way.
Please contact the application’s support team for more information."

It is quite random and I can't figure out what triggers it or what to do about it. It shuts down IE when I click OK. I have the classic two buttons checked and unchecked; disable script debugging and notify me of script error. So it doesn't have anything to do with that.

I have run Adaware and Spybot and Norton and it doesn't touch it. I have also searched the Microsoft database extensively and haven't found anything.

I really have no idea what to do. Thanks for the help.

tanman,
Some of these parasites can be a royal pain to remove, so be patient. Hopefully we will get it the first time

Download these programs
Adaware6.181(http://www.download.com/3000-2144-10...lpage&tag=butt
on) Once Installed update with current reference file
Adaware configuration is at the bottom of the post
CWShredder 1.59.1 (http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4086.html)

Install and Run CWS Shredder (Close all Browsers)
Then, Run HiJack This and let it fix these items

C:\WINDOWS\bgmcfg.exe

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [webHancer Survey Companion] C:\Program Files\whInstall\WhSurvey.exe
O4 - Startup: PowerReg Scheduler.exe

Configure and Run Adaware via these instructions:
ADWARE CONFIGURATION

1) ADAWARE 6.181
In Ad-aware click the Gear to go to the Settings area.

The following items should be on a green check, not on a red X.

Under the Scanning button:

Scan within archives

Under Memory & Registry, Check EVERYTHING

In Check Drives & Folders, make sure all of your hard drives are selected

Under the Advanced button, check ALL under Log detail level (this makes it easier for

visitors to the Lavasoft Support Forums to see what options you have selected should you

require assistance.)

Under the Tweak button...

Some of these may not be an available option, depending on your version of Ad-aware and your

version of Windows. Do not be concerned if you cannot select a certain item.

In Scanning Engine:

Unload recognized processes during scanning

Include info about ignored objects in logfile, if detected in scan

Include basic Ad-aware settings in logfile

Include additional Ad-aware settings in logfile

Include used command line parameters in logfile

In Cleaning Engine:

XP/2000: Allow unloading explorer to unload shell extensions prior to deletion

Let Windows remove files in use at next reboot

UNCHECK: Automatically try to unregister objects prior to deletion

Click Proceed to save these settings. When you would like to perform a "Full Scan," switch

the scan mode from SmartScan to Custom.

When Finished repost the contents of a new HijackThis Log

Go to windows Explorer and navigate to C:\WINDOWS\bgmcfg.exe
Right click on the file and select properties>Version Tab, What company does it list?

Run CTRL ALT DEL to bring up the task manager, under "processes" is bgmcfg.exe listed? If so, End Process then delete in Win Explorer.

If it is an unreconizable compnay, then delete it!

Otherwise it looks good now. Are you still getting the error from your original post?
"Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library

Runtime Error!

Program: C/Program Files/Internet Explorer/iexplore.exe

Hmm...It says the company is "e" Something about Project1 Internal name is 5-30.exe

It was running under the processes. I ended it and deleted it. Hopefully that will put an end to that little gremlin.

Thanks again 68 Shelby!

Same Problem

Hey guys. Glad to have sites like this. I have the same problem as tanman. I ran through all the steps you listed, but did not find the "bgmcfg.exe" anywhere on my machine. I have a Dell, and contacted their online support and they wanted me to reformat my computer (haha). I'm attaching my hijackthis log. Please let me know if you see anything funny.

Thanks,
Davey
