EXTREME delays when sending email from hotmail via OutlookExpress to nonhotmail accts

Hi All,

My parents are now setup using their hotmail account via Outlook express.

When they send an email to another hotmail email user the message sends instantly.

When they send an email to a non-hotmail email user the message has about a 5 hour delay.

This baffles me because I use the same outlook express/hotmail setup with my accounts on my laptop and have no issues.

They are using the hotmail HTTP protocol to grab mail from hotmail. though it shouldn't make a difference, they have 2 hotmail accounts on Outlook Express

They are using Windows XP Professional all windows updates have been applied.

Also, when they send an email to a non-hotmail email user from hotmail.com itself, there is no delay. Only when sending via OE.

Your help is appreciated

Have a look at the settings in OE>Tools>Options>Send tab...is "Send Messages Immediately" checked? If not, Place a check there and click on OK. Otherwise compare all of these Tools>Options settings on the laptop and "Problem" computer.

It may be normal for OE or your ISP. Do you send it on a "priority" or standard?

I didn't mark the emails priority or urgent... just standard.

This behavior is definitely not normal for my ISP (Comcast). When they were with Incredimail, there was no issues with the delay to non-hotmail addresses.

I don't have any other alternatives other than to switch e-mail clients and see if that solves the problem. Thunderbird is alot more secure than a MS Product. Avail from http://www.mozilla.org/products/thunderbird/
(freeware)

Thanks for the suggestion...only problem is thunderbird only supports imap and pop, no HTTP (what hotmail uses)

I don't want them to have to switch email addresses...
