Windows XP Professional clock running slow

I did a search on this topic, but could only find one about Windows 98.

My computer clock at work takes 2 seconds to tick 1 second off. It just started today. I usually lose a few seconds a day, but today I'm losing about 5 minutes every hour. What could be causing this?

The battery on your motherboard. Time is kept at a hardware level, not software. If you got a new battery everything will be ok.

In addition to what Brian Stew said,

In the old days, I don't know about now, but Norton has this issue of clock slowdown. Could be somethiing in the system tray causing the slowdown
