Is my monitor slowly dying?

Every time I play a game, I have to turn up the brightness and contrast just so I can see the game. This issue has happened with the same monitor on two different computers, and four different video cards.

probably, or the gamma level in the game is too low
I've seen a lot of FPS that have ridiculously low gamma settings as the default

Changing the gamma setting helped a bit, thanks. I had forgotten about that setting. It still seems I have to change the brightness on this damn thing anytime I watch a video or something.
