Good b/w printer? recommendation?

Need to print text and b/w images.

Can someone recommend a cheap printer?

There are soooo many printers, my head is spinning.

How's this one? I don't need it to print pictures, but if it's a good printer, I'll take the photo printing bonus.

TIA!!!

pick up a used hp laserjet 4 printer on ebay. One in excellent condition should be less than $100. the bonus here is that they do excellent printing of text only, and are built like a tank.

Photos are a different story though.

I second that suggestion that HP LaserJet4's are great. Still got plenty of those cooking for me. If you want a cheap solution and hopefully not going through a bunch of toner, try looking at the Samsung ML1710. They are entry level, but pretty good for sub $100 if you need a quick solution.

I love laserJets (my parents have two) and usually from the deals sites you can find them on sale with rebate for pretty cheap every now and then. I lucked out with a Minolta 1250W deal a year back, cost me $45 after rebate - Great price for this laser.

Check out the deals sites and see what low end laser printer deals are going on.

the reason I suggested a used lj4 was the enormous availability of very inexpensive parts, and their proven design.

Anyone who can hold a screwdriver and read a service manual can rebuild them with ease, and the parts are cheap now because everyone wants those fancy 2400dpi speed demons

If you're interested in just black + white printing, then I'd go with a laser printer, instead of a printer that uses liquid ink (ie, HP Deskjet).

I'd recommend any Brother Laserjet. I have a HL-1240 that's a few years old and its toner usage is very low. I've never had a problem with it. One of the most important questions to ask when buying a printer is 1) how long will the ink cartridge/toner last, and 2) how much are replacement cartridges/toners.
