linux home network

Hey,

Just recently, I've become interested in installing and configuring linux for a home network. I've been reading a lot about linux, and figured that I might as well give it a shot...

For my home network, I'm using a cable broadband connection that feeds into a wireless router. One computer is connected using the wired ports, and 2 computers are connected using the wireless connection.

What advantages (if any) will I see using Linux as a server?

thanks in advance.
