MP3 shuffle mode... why not?

I just bought a nice little 140 watt Panasonic micro-system to play tunes in my bathroom (it's a large bathroom!). Biggest selling point besides the 5 CD changer is that it plays MP3 discs.
This model is brand spankin' new.

But I discovered something that is so disappointing to me that I might get rid of it. No shuffle/random mode for MP3. What?
I've got a couple of 200 song mixes that were pretty much made to be played in random mode, but no can do with this system. Is it really THAT difficult to make this feature available? CD mode has the shuffle, but not MP3. Weird.

Alot of players have goofy MP3 shuffle modes. On my Kenwood car deck, I can only shuffle within a file, not throughout a whole disc. So, if I want to make a compilation disc, I have to create one master file w/ all the songs in it.

That would suck, but at least you can do it with a master. I can't even do that. I don't understand the technical limitations for not including this feature.

Probably a combination of not including the feature to skimp on the cost, and brain-dead manufacturers who don't understand their product.

Good question. I avoided a Kenwood car stereo I really liked because the shuffle was only per folder, not the whole disc like Def said. I ended up with a decent Panasonic deck that has a decent shuffle, at least it seemed decent at the time. It goes through all the folders but after using it awhile, I'm starting to realize that the shuffle is a little strange. It'll play a bunch of songs out of a few folders and very few out of the rest. It's strange. Is it really that hard to make a good, random shuffle?
