Heads Up: Those Using Firefox on Win XP

An exploit has been found and confirmed for Firefox 0.9.1 and older versions on WinXP (http://www.eweek.com/article2/0,1759,1621438,00.asp)

There are two fixes:
1. A new version (0.9.2) of Firefox was released last night with the fix in place - http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/

2. If you're not ready to install a new version, there is a standalone fix that can be found here - http://update.mozilla.org/extensions...nfo.php?id=154

(I believe this affects all Mozilla products)

A vulnerability was reported in Firefox in the processing of the Windows 'shell:' protocol. A remote user can create HTML that, when loaded by the target user, can invoke certain Windows-based applications.

Mozilla confirmed that the bug reported by Joshua Perrymon affects Firefox when running on Windows-based systems.

When the target is running Windows XP, a remote user can cause executables in certain known locations to be executed on the target user's system. If the target executable application contains a locally exploitable vulnerability, it is possible that the vulnerability can be exploited remotely via Firefox.
As mentioned, also affects Mozilla (versions prior to 1.7.1).
