Question re: replacing cd rom drive and possibly another issue

I have an old Compaq Prosignia 150 and I want to replace my dead cd drive with exact model. After installing the unit, will I require any drivers to get it to work or is that not an issue. This computer is really screwed because I can't get Windows '98 to boot and I just want to reinstall and start from scratch using my quick restore disc. I have a peripheral cdrw connected to this thing and I won't seem to read the restore disc but I guess that's another issue entirely. If someone could offer a little advice, I would sincerely appreciate it. Thanks!
