As far as I know, they're not available for sale just yet. As far as I know, they'll first be introduced to the Japanese market and make their way over to the USA sometime in the late summer/early fall.

I think it would be wise to wait at least a year after they come out. I hate being the "tester".

wow. Not bad. Still, I'd prefer faster, cheaper, and more tested ones a year from now.

yea i dont mind being a guinea pig if it's not too expensive. plus i needed a new burner anyway and it writes at 8x - and + and a dual format drive is almost that price anyway. When I got my 1x dvd burner it was like $500+ if i remember correctly, so this isn't too bad. Now if i could only find the media..

BTW, my post was in reference to the availability of the media and not the drives themselves.

A friend of mine just bought a Sony DRU-700A dual layer burner at Best Buy, but they don't sell the media for it yet.

The only place where I found DL media says they are shipping after June 30 (Americal.com).

Yep, I just saw them at Best Buy as well and they seemed reasonably priced.. Tempted, but at $6 a pop for discs I'll wait to hear about compatibility issues.

I could live with $6 till they come down but Americal.com has them at $18-21/disk.

I may still buy the Sony DL drive at $139 isn't bad even if I will only burn single layer for the time being.

Where on earth can you find DL media at $6 a pop? Most places I've heard of are much more expensive than that.
