What are the best free technical forums?

Not that there's anything wrong w/ DVDtalk or course but this forum is obviously not the main focus of the site. I noticed someone posted

http://forums.macnn.com/

in response to another thread, and I've recently started monitoring

http://www.freebsdforums.com/ but that's obviously a specific focus group

What are some good general tech forums to use for answers. There was an anatech or something like that at one point right?

forums.anandtech.com are pretty good, although you have to dig through a decent amount of junk posts.

Depends on what you're looking for.

Anandtech is pretty good for general issues and sometimes you may luck out by finding a discussion of just what you are interested in. They have quite a few topic-oriented forums but I find the threads in those forums are all over the place. And there are a lot of people there who don't know much but think they do.

I find the niche forums that concentrate on the particular topic I'm looking for are the best way to go. For instance, forums that concentrate on a brand of motherboard, overclocking, or optical drive firmware "upgrades".
