CSS Problem

I'm having goofy troubles on my site, I think it's CSS/IE related.

An empty comments page has rendering issues where the background is in the foreground.

I've also had intermittent weirdness on the homepage but I can't nail it down.

Can anyone take a look at my site and help me out?

On the left is how the window appears. On the right is the way it's supposed to look, and only looks that way if (a) there are comments on the page -- though sometimes it takes 2 comments to alleviate the problem, or (b) if I minimize then restore the window.

Other weird thing is if you highlight the words with your mouse it fixes itself.

And on the front page, if you try to highlight text, it's all wonky and jerky. It'll either not let you highlight anything, or else it will highlight everything from the top of the page down.

It's not just me. Another page using the same CSS style as me exhibits similar behavior.

Looks pretty good in Firefox.

Your home page almost validates. Your CSS validates.

I'd have to agree, it's IE wackiness. I can't see anything odd though. It all works good in IE for me, too.

Refresh?

I think I fixed it.

The highlighting thing went away when I removed the absolute positioning from my #container div.

the weird rendering thing seems to have been caused by a buried piece of styling in the movable type default template for the comments popup; it was floating the inputs to the left of the "remember personal info" radio. I just took that out, dropping the radio below the inputs and it seems to work correctly now.

I don't understand enough about CSS and/or the IE idiosyncracies to understand exactly what was going on.
