forwarding through mpg files

i have a couple of mpg files and when I play them in Windows Media Player, I can't advance or fastforward the video... I can just push play and sit through the whole thing.. is there a settting i'm missing or another player to use or is that just a feature of mpg files

alternatively, you can get your hands on some software thats called ASF tools - I think its freeware. You load the vid file into the application and in select "make searchable", then click "OK" - thats it. It makes another file, so you can delete the original file. It doesnt always work, but in my experience it works at least 95% of the time.

Converting to MPG works, but I'm guessing that process is longer that way (not sure how much) - of course if youre looking to burn it to a DVD to watch it on TV, that would be the better way to go.

If you can find an older version of media player, it will let you FF though files that the newer versions wouldn't (not always though).

yeah, go to "run", and type Mplayer2 ... this is the old version of meadia player 6.4... it should be on most systems.
