XP Crash - Is the data lost?

I received a call tonight from my sister-in-law regarding her Compaq running XP.

I'm still running 98SE, so I'm at a loss:

According to her, the pc became accidently unplugged, and when she rebooted it asked her to insert a system CD, which asked if she wanted to R(ecover) or F(ull Restore).

She selected Recover, and while the system boots fine now, she seems to have lost all her digital pictures. A window opens re: doing a recover of a previous setup, but it only goes back to after she did the initial Recover.

So - are her pix lost for good? (That's really all she is concerned about)

thx

For a start if she has Compaq Support call them. It seems odd that it requested that, unless there was an error that shut it down even if it appeared to be her choice.

That was my thought also.

Her only concern is retrieving the digital pix, which I'm thinking may be lost due to the XP Recover process (that I know nothing about)
