NT4 domain - network accounts automatically unlock?

ok.. Im trying to find some documentation

one of our user support techs and one of our sys admins says that after either 15 or 30 minutes... a locked network account will automatically unlock

both me and another of our sys admins says thats not true..

in my 5 years in tech support before getting promoted out.. I know I had to have unlocked a ton of accounts.. and I refuse to believe that all of them were in less than 15-30 minutes from when the account got locked out..

Im assuming there is probably a setting to make it automatically unlock after x amount of time.. but cant find the information on it.. and im pretty sure we dont have that setting active

anyone know anything about this?

well then.. your just one more person that agrees with me

when i tried googling it.. i found alot of universities listing on their domain help sites, that if you login incorrectly more than 3 times in a 15 minute span, you will lock your account.. and then most of those sites said if you want 15, 30, or 60 minutes, the account will automatically unlock.. not sure if this is something just implemented by specific places, maybe using a batch file to unlock them all.. or if its actually a functionallity built into server

I dont remember ever seeing it.. and I definitly disagree with it being currently in use on our network..

it almost makes me want to lock someone's account and wait, just to see!

In User Manager, under Policies | Account...

You can set an account to be locked out if the password is entered wrong after a certain number of attempts. In this same area you can set the "lockout duration". If set for 15 minutes, then the account will auto-unlock after being locked out for 15 minutes.

Edit: This is for an NT4 domain.

btw.. Ive confirmed with a handful of our user support peoples that it doesnt really work that way it should

we have remote users that come in through ras if they dont have access to broadband/vpn.. and occasionally they lock their accounts by typing in the wrong one.. and when this happens, they can not get in (later that night, the next day, a week later) until they call and have someone unlock their account..
