upgrading firmware on hp laserjet 4000?

its just come to my attention there are some exploits on a specific firmware for the HP laserjet 4000. It will cause EIO errors and printing to stop until the printer has been cycled on and off.

This wouldnt be a big deal, except there is a bit of a bug bouncing itself around our network right now. So its a minor annoyance

i figure my options are either to ignore it and tell everyone to restart the printer on the rare instance they get the problem.

or figure out how to upgrade the firmware on the printers that are having the problem.

anyone in here ever upgrade the firmware on a lj4k?

I've upgraded HP firmware through their jetdirect program (this was on a laserjet 5 I think)

i download the HP Download Manager

it went out and scanned my entire segment and prompted back telling me which jetdirect cards were using old firmware (all of them of course) and let me either update now, or schedule to update at a specified time

Im updating all the printers that have had problems now.. and going to schedule all the rest for later

Thanks for the reminder, Twikoff. I've been trying to use the WebJetadmin for across-the-board print management, but I hate its flaky java interface.

Downloading the HP Download Manager presently...been meaning to update those firmwares myself....
