How to turn internal hard drive into external?

I have an internal PC hard drive that I want to use to back up data on my laptop. I have firewire and USB. What is the cheapest way to do this.

You can buy a external case that connects via USB or Firewire, and then install the hard drive or a burner inside the case,.

Something like this:

USB 2.0 Enclosure

Firewire Enclosure

Hope that helps.

That one you linked is for 5.25 or 3.5 so if your just going to use it for a hard drive i would get one thats 3.5 so its not so huge.

I have the bytecc me-350u2 and i love it... its backwards compatable usb 1.1 and also has usb2.0

if your laptop isn't usb2.0 then you definatly want to get the firewire version which is the bytecc me-350f... they also make one that has both usb2.0 and firewire which is the me-350u2f... just search pricewatch.com for the best price

Also do a search for External Enclosures here in the forum...theres been a few topics about this already that you may find some more info on. I responded to a couple myself. I use a ADS enclosure for my HD (Smaller size for HD only) on my laptop and its excellent.

I have that one and it works well and is cheap, but is also huge and cheaply constructed.
