Slow router problem when waching real video

Hi, I need some help for solving my router problem.

I have cox cable internet service, and when I connect internet direct from modem to computer, I have no problem watching any VOD (video on demand) service in internet.

However, I tried Linksys wireless router (802.11b), Netgear wireless router (802.11b), and even Netgear wired router, but when I watch VOD, this does not work, moving is not smoth, just stop, and jump to another scene. If I do not use router, it's ok.

I even check the speed of both situation, but it's same. and I do not connect multiple computers, I just use one computer with connecting wired Ethernet cable.

I am using windows 98 SE, 128 ram, Pentium III 900.

If my computer is a problem, no router should have same problem, but I always have problem when I connect router.

Thanks in advance!!!

You'll probaly need to find the port(s) that VOD uses and set up Port Forwarding on your Router to fix this issue. The router is probaly blocking some of the ports VOD is using.

Thanks for your reply cubanx, but I do not know about port block, and how to unblock it. Could you tell me more about it?

Thanks in advance...

I use a Netgear and here's thier page for Port forwarding:

http://kbserver.netgear.com/kb_web_files/N101145.asp

You'll first need to determine what ports you need open though depending on what program your using for VOD. Updating your Routers firmware would be my first recommendation though and then move on to manually opening the ports you need if the firmware update did not help.

Port forwarding has nothing to do with the issue.

See if there are any firmware updates for the router.

Make sure that you're getting a proper ip address from the router (go to start -> run -> type winipcfg).

Thanks everyone for helping me.

But, I almost give up this problem, I upgraded firmware, but in vain, I tried to figure out what the port forwarding is, but that's out of my knowledge.

I really do not understand why

modem --> PC is no problem, but
modem --> router --> PC has freezing VOD.

Are you using DHCP or Static Routing?
