Do you want to "read" newsgroups or download binaries?

For downloading binaries, Powergrab is the best IMHO -

I'm still a fan of NewsShark. I also think there's been previous threads on here about the best readers. Try doing a search for it.

If you're going to be downloading binaries I recommend BNR (Binary News Reaper)

It is especially good for using multiple servers.

If your a newbie: Grabit
If your experienced with newsgroups: Newsbin Pro

Wow. Every post something different.

I have to second Forte Agent. I've been using it for years.(for PC)
On the mac I use a program called Thoth, which has some nicer features.

I used to use Agent, but now it is Xnews for me. (for reading posts, not downloading binaries; I use newsbinpro for binaries).

I started with Agent and then moved to PowerGrab because Agent doesn't support multiple news threads (which greatly increases download speed). Then I moved to Newsbin Pro. I liked that program, but the longer I used it the slower it got. It also crashed a lot. After a month, I was fed up with Newsbin and stopped using it. So, I went back to PowerGrab and have been using it ever since.

Another XNews vote. I've been using it for a few years now, for binaries and discussion groups, it's top notch.

I had used Newsxpress since the mid 90s, and tried out a bunch of newsreaders for binaries about 4 years ago. XNews was easily the best of the bunch then, and unless it doesn't work with some future OS, I'll continue using it for good. Straightforward, does all it needs to do and nothing more.
