External DVD Burner?

Hello. I am looking into getting an external DVD writer for my computer. I was wondering which ones work the best for Windows XP, on a Dell Dimension 4500. I basically want to back-up my own collection and be able to convert home movies to DVD. I checked amazon and didn't really get much out of it. Any information would be greatly appreciated!!!! Thanks!

SONY has a couple good models. I have the internal and it works great. Went down and SONY replaced it right away. I'm also trying to convert home movies to DVD via Pinnacle Studios and haven't had much luck. Let me know how you make out.

Thanks for the heads up. I was looking at either SONY or Iomega. If I find out anything on the home movie front I will let you know. Thanks again.

I have the external Sony DVD recorder. Does both +/- R/RW formats. Hooks up via iLink (firewire) or USB 2.0/1.1 and includes cables for both. No troubles out of it. Very happy with it.
