IE6: Why do new windows not have the status bar?

I don't get it. I like the status bar always, but anytime I hit CTRL-N, or do it otherwise, the new window lacks the status bar.

Is it in the settings and I'm just missing it?

IE will keep the settings that were used in the last IE window that is closed. Try this:

close all ie windows
open a new one
go to
view->status bar
does the status bar appear?
Now close that window
open a new ie window.
Is it there? It should be

if that doesnt work, i dont know what could be going on

You'll probably need to go into Windows Explorer and turn on the status bar there.

I know, it sounds weird.

I've had this problem for years. The status bar doesn't come on in a new window in IE6, and I can't get the status bar to stay on in Windows Explorer.

Have you gone into W.E. and set the status bar on, then gone into its Tools->Folder Options->View tab and clicked the Like Current Folder button?

Several "solutions" here and here. Choose what works.

Donít you just love it when the software works as designed!

But this is a "feature" right?
