HELP!! Will a AGP 2X card work on an 8X motherboard??

I bought an ASUS A7V8X-X motherboard and the product details says it has an AGP 8X interface.

Later on I bought a video card from overstock.com, then I started thinking. I did a little research on it and it looks like it might be an AGP 2X card.

Both of these products are in the process of being shipped to me and now I am worrying if they will even work together?

Thanks for any input!

hmmmmm. Most of the 8x motherboards that I have seen are also 2x and 4x compatable. I just built a new system for my folks and all of the motherboards that I looked at were 2,4,8x compatable. It it doesnt work, just return it. Dont worry, everything will be okay.

Thanks, I think you might be right... I was reading reviews for the motherboard and people were saying that they got their 4X cards to work so maybe my 2X will!

Hmm...it may not work. The AGP slot changed a bit between the 2x and 4x generations. There are still some of the larger 2x cards floating around that aren't compatible with the 4x/8x slots.

Well i decided to try it since i got it for about $30 and figured it would cost too much to return.

Everything seems to work so far.. i'm glad it does.

I feel pretty dumb for getting this when i could have had a 8x for about 15 bucks more from newegg or zipzoomfly.
