Need a good program to test my new system.

OK, I just built a new system and I would like to put it throught a workout. What burn in program can I use or should I use. I want to test the ram, cpu, and video card. I want to put it through the hardest test I can find.

Thanks!

I find the "daily use" test to be very adequate.

Sandra... Right, if you want soft tests. Put that baby up to the real test w/ Prime95 for the CPU and RAM, say 24hrs on torture. While at the same time, loop 3DMark for the video, say another 24hrs. If your system has any instability, you'll know by the first hour.

OK I ran both test for over 20 hours w/o a problem. Now when I go to play one game and only one game it will lockup and crash sometimes. I have updated drivers and patches. Any idea what could be the problem?

I had similar problems with mine. It ran Sandra fine for extended periods of time, but would crash during game play. Mine turned out to be a faulty memory chip.

To test your memory, download memtest86 for http://www.memtest86.com You'll have to run it from a boot disk, but it will tell you any problems you may have with memory. Also, if you haven't already, you might want to check the settings for your memory and hand enter them into the bios, instead of using the defaults.

Does your computer crash or just the game? What game?

You said you have the latest drivers, how about the latest DirectX runtime libarary? Did you go through and check the video settings to make sure you using all the hardware assistance as possible?

Did you try reducing the settings within the game and see if works then. There have been very few times I've seen a game completely crash if the system isn't up to speed. Most of the time I just got choppy playback or intermitten action.

The game I was playing: Return to Castle Wolf
Halo works fine and 1942 works great.

I have the latest DirectX update. But how do I check to find out if the runtie libarary is up-to-date.

Yes, I did lower the settings in the game all the way to 640 480 and it will crash 15 - 30 mins into the game. It is not a heat issue.

When the game crashes I get a blue screen sometimes (the lights on my cable modem continue to blick) and sometimes windows will bring up the debug option.

This crash will only happen when I am playing multi player. Single player game is OK. Very strange.

The review is old but talks of multiple problems and configuring his system specificially according to the readme file.

Do you have the patches for the game?

I appears he was having problems in the single player game where I am only having problems in the Multi player game. Very strange!! I do have the latest patch 1.41 installed on my system. Now the game ran perfect on my older system xp 1800 with all the same hardware, that is execpt for the processor and MoBo.

I will go through the readme files when I get home from work. I guess the only other thing I could do would be a fresh install of the OS and see.

UPDATE!!!

Well I have to move my ram speed down to 333 and it worked perfect. I could never get it working at 400. Samething went wrong with a buddy of mine with the exact same PC build. He could never get the ram working at 400, only 333 or lower. I belive it could be a mobo problem. Still waiting form MSI to get back with me.

AMD 64 3000+ CPU
MIS kt7 neo Mobo

assuming you have 3- 256 MB dimms of PC3200 memory to use DDR 400 for this motherboard you can only use 4 banks. so if the dimms are double sided then you would be limited to 2 dimms at DDR400.

Of course if this does not apply then
