ATI Radeon 9600 pro, 128MB vs 256MB?

I have heard that the 256MB ATI Radeon 9600 pro is actually slower than the 128MB version. Anyone know of any reviews to substantiate/debunk this?

Not sure... but i remember this was the case back with the GeForce 4 Ti4200, with the 64 meg ram being clocked slightly faster then the 128 mb version. I believe the reason was that it cost more to have higher density ram rated at a certain speed. Not sure if this is the case with the Radeon 9600.

IIRC, the ram used on the 256MB models were rated slower than the 128MB version, so it impacted the performance a little bit while costing more and not giving the boost in performance that one would expect by paying more.
