EAX and soundcard concerns...

I've a P4 2.4GHz, 512MB, with an ATI 9800 Radeon Pro and a (Turtle Beach) Santa Cruz soundcard.

I want hear EAX on Call of Duty, but it doesn't seem to sound right. The Thompson sounds clipped and the video seems to 'stick' once in a while. I am using the newest Turtle Beach drivers which add EAX 1.0 and 2.0 capability. I've tried using 1.0 and 2.0 in CoD, but the miles driver sounds the best.

The question is this- will a Creative Labs card address this? I am wondering if the Turtle Beach support of EAX is flawed or requires a lot of CPU, maybe it's using an emulator to fool the software into thinking it's a CL sound card?

Lastly, I'm guessing that EAX provides a surround-sound effect with headphones, is that correct?

I have the same card, and quite frankly the Santa Cruz just doesn't handle EAX very well, although the same can be said about the majority of non-Creative cards. Picking up a Creative Labs card would address it... although i wouldn't recommend anything except for an Audigy 2 or Audigy 2 ZS. Personally, i don't think it's worth it, but the Audigy 2 is a slight upgrade in terms of overall sound quality over the Santa Cruz as well as in gaming, so it might be worth your money.
