Which is better, Barton or Thoroughbred Athlon XP core, and why?

Any comments on the subject? This would be for a home computer running windows XP. Thanks.

Barton's has the newer core that runs cooler and has larger L2 cache, 512KB versus 256KB on Tbred. You can find more in depth reports on the subject at anandtech.com

is there any reason not to get a barton if you are getting a cpu that 2500 or faster?

No, not really. Barton 2500 runs on 333FSB. If your current mobo doesn't support 333FSB even after BIOS update, then you'll have to get one of the slower 266FSB model AMD Tbreds. Check newegg.com's CPU to be sure which one you're getting.
