Office XP Small Business removal help needed

Hi all,

I'm running XP Home on my Dell 8300.

I currently have a fully licensed copy of Office XP small business on my computer. I need Powerpoint though. I have an old copy of Office 2000 Pro that I want to install but I can't uninstall Office XP SB.

I get the following error: "This patch package could not be opened. Verify the patch package exists and you can access it, or contact the application vendor to verify this is a valid Windows installation patch package".

I'm planning on getting Office 2003 Student/Teacher version which is perfect but until then I'm stuck.

Any ideas?

I went to the XP SB disc and uninstalled it...but guess what....all the programs are still there, Outlook, Word, etc...and they still all work.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

I get similar errors when I try to install and uninstall ATI video drivers on an XP machine. I figured out I could just hit Cancel instead of OK a couple of times and it continued on.

You may need to reinstall the MS Installer.

Thanks X.

I'm guessing that means re-install XP SB and then try another unintstall.

Still no go.

I can't get office updates and I can't uninstall.

The only thing it will let me do, even with the disc in, is to install Windows media content.

And I looked over that webpage X...but being a computer newbie I don't know where to go from there.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

I meant you might need to load up the package called MS Installer. They should have a download for it somewhere.

[Added: I looked around for it and couldn't find it. I think it's built into XP so there's no separate download for it. You could try installing XP's SP1a if you haven't already.]

Sorry guys.....my brain was taking a day off.

There are two discs...and I was using the wrong one.

I'm really not this stupid....just a looooong week.

I'll let you know how it goes.

Thanks for the info X.
